Biography

ROKSONAKI is the original world music band from Kazakhstan. Founded in 1990 by Ruslan Kara, the winner of the International Ethno Music Festival «The Voice of Asia» (1991), the band went on to play at festivals in Winnipeg, Berlin, Washington, Istanbul, Kanas and Shanghai. In 2003, Roksonaki played a collaborative show with Yo-Yo Ma in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

The unique sound of their music combines original archaic timbres of ancient Kazakh instruments and individual findings. Authentic Kazakh folk songs, as well as contemporary re- creation of lost archaic genres (such as shamanic ritual chants), and original songs form the basis of the group's repertoire.

The group has released five albums: "Til", "Zholga shyk", "Nauyryz", "Tamyr", "Dala".

Members:

Ruslan Kara (Composer, Vocal, Guitar, Percussion)

Adıl Baıysbaev (Keyboards, Flute)

Aman Akbaev (Bass, Backing vocal)

Arsen Jaýnbaev (Drums, Percussion)
